Skin Booster

Glow Aesthetics By Dora

Skin boosters are not all the same however collectively they can be described as injections to enhance and improve skin quality. All contain Hyaluronic acid (HA), some contain High levels of HA and nothing else, others high and low molecular weight, while others contain lower levels of HA but are supplemented with amino acids and antioxidants and vitamins.  They could be described as an internal moisturiser for the skin, depositing exactly where it needs to go in the dermis for optimum effect.

Skin boosters require time to work, they are not a quick fix. They work slowly but surely stimulating the fibroblasts to produce collagen and hydrating the skin from within. As well as the face, neck and decolletage, they can be used for under arms, hands and knees.
Depending on the chosen treatment some of the possible benefits could be

  • Enhanced hydration- giving a subtle glow and luminosity

  • Reduced hyperpigmentation

  • Fresh radiant complexion

  • Reduced lines and wrinkles

  • More firmness in skin texture

  • Softer skin with more bounce

  • Lifted skin that feels tighter

Skin Boosters work perfectly in synergy with other treatments to give an all-round natural enhancement for you.

Proud administrators of Profhilo hydraulic acid treatment

Beauty Booster

Profhilo

Profhilo is 100% hyaluronic acid (HA) containing 64 mgs per 2 mls of product. It nourishes the dermal cells and is a patented formulae of high molecular weight HA that promotes a slight plumping or tightening effect and lower molecular weight that hydrates the skin surface from within. Profhilo is designed to treat skin laxity which develops as the skin loses tone and tightness during the aging process. It has won numerous industry awards.

It is administered using the bio aesthetic points (BAP) technique of 5 injection points either side of the face. This injection technique was developed by the Profhilo team where 0.2 mls of product is administered in the specific points. The product spreads over the face due to muscle movement. Full effect of the treatment can be seen at around 8 weeks. Suitable for age 30+

The product can sting a little during injections and numbing cream can be applied over the skin at all the injection points.

The course consists of 2 treatments 4 weeks apart and then 1-2 treatments at 6 monthly intervals

Seventy Hyal contains 100% hyaluronic acid of 30mgs per 2 ml of only high weight molecular hyaluronic acid (HA) and shows results after 2 weeks. Utilising bio stimulation it is primarily used for skin hydration, subtle contour, improved skin quality and radiance. This treatment can sting during administration, the skin can be numbed prior to treatment and ice applied by the practitioner to injection points to make the procedure more comfortable. Seventy Hyal has a versatile injection protocol. The BAP technique can be used or multiple injections to target areas of concern including face/crows feet, lips, neck and hands. Suitable for age 20+

The initial course is 2-3 treatments 4 weeks apart and then maintenance 6 monthly.

It is specifically suitable for peri orbital treatment around the eyes targeting dark circles, bags and fine wrinkles, using a combination of two types of non cross linked hyaluronic acid  and a rich complex of amino acids and peptides. This advanced bio-technology will gradually reduce the appearance of wrinkles, hydrate and plump the skin, improve smoothness and overall appearance.

Typically 2-3 treatments, 2 weeks apart and 1-2  maintenance treatments every 4-6 months according to need. The skin will be numbed prior to the treatment.

Explanation on Amino Acids and why they are so important?

I have added this as it really links in with the skin boosters offered in clinic. From the age of 25 we lose 1-2% of collagen per year. As we get older production of collagen diminishes. It is the fibroblasts that maintain collagen, but as we age fibroblast function becomes impaired and production of collagen slows down. Type 1 collagen accounts for 90% in the human body. By administering amino acids in skin boosters, the fibroblasts are supported and stimulated in producing the collagen and elastin required for

  • Tissue repair

  • Immune response

  • Cellular communication

  • Cellular migration, a process necessary for tissue maintenance

Lifestyle influences are often difficult to overcome and change, but the following do have a profound effect on our body and skin.

Cigarette smoking degrades collagen, causing acceleration of skin aging, loss of elasticity, and wrinkles. Excessive alcohol consumption accelerates skin aging by the reduction of collagen production and can damage skin repair processes. Finally, a diet that is high in added sugar and ultra processed foods can potentiate premature aging by adding to the process of glycation which makes collagen rigid and lose the ability to keep skin firm and elastic. Ultimately there will be a reduction of collagen production, which hinders the very important function of collagen’s capacity to connect with surrounding cells and proteins.

The following quote I think explains the process well.

‘Amino acids are the building blocks of all proteins, including the most abundant fibrous proteins in the skin, as keratins, collagen and elastin. Sagging and wrinkled skin are features of chronic sun-damaged and aged uncared for skin, and they are mainly associated with the deterioration of collagen and elastic fibres. Maintenance of skin structures by self-repair processes is essential to skin health. Thus, amino acids significantly impact on the appearance of the skin.

  • Amino acids are important for wound healing promotion and repair of damaged skin,

  • Acid-base balance and water retention in cellular layers such as stratum corneum

  • Protection against sunlight damage

  • Maintenance of an appropriate skin biome’

Before your treatment please ensure No alcohol for 24 hrs

  • Have  a light meal

  • Ensure you are well hydrated

  • Be make up free

  • Avoid medication that can increase bruising, including supplements

  • Do not stop prescription medication

  • Ensure you have had enough time to consider

  • Choose your injector wisely

  • What age can you have anti wrinkle injections?
The Law requires you to be 18 years old. However, in this clinic we would advise that it is not indicated in someone so young. Early 30’s or a little earlier for preventative treatment could be considered following a thorough consultation in clinic. BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder) is a condition we are very aware of and if this is suspected we would not treat and would refer you to your GP (with your consent) to get the specialist help required for your wellbeing.
  • How long does it take to start working?
It takes about 3-5 days. Adjustments can be made at 2-3 weeks post treatment. After 4 weeks the effect will gradually wear off. The effect typically lasts up to 4 months. We don’t re inject under 12 weeks.
  • I am over 65 in age can I still have Anti Wrinkle injections?
The simple answer is yes, but it is not licensed for over 65’s and it will only be effective in dynamic wrinkles. Static lines will remain, so you need to be realistic about your expectations. Your practitioner will guide you, as there may be more relevant treatments eg skin boosters to improve your complexion.
  • Does it ever stop working?
In rare cases you can develop resistance, in which case the medication can be changed to a different brand. We, at Glow Aesthetics by Dora will always use a product that contains less protein as our first line of treatment, therefore less chance of reaction or resistance.
  • Does exercise affect the length of effectiveness?
Yes,strenuous exercise is known to shorten the effectiveness of botulin toxin A
  • How can I make my treatment last longer?
Shade your face from the sun, don’t exercise immediately after treatment, avoid the sauna and hot baths/showers be gentle with your face for 48 hrs post treatment, choose your injector wisely. Take a zinc supplement, studies have demonstrated that this may help.
